Several months ago I
posted that I would be teaching a blind student in my general psychology
class. I received maybe 30 emails with good suggestions. I have now
finished the semester and I am happy to report that it was a success. I
would like to claim credit for the success, but it all goes to this astonishing
student. I prepared some special study materials, exams, and spent a bit
more time in class describing visual information which actually benefited the
entire class. I would check periodically in class with a "How am I
doing?" Most of the time the response was a quick "I get it.
You're doing fine." The other students in the class were perfect,
helping in the right ways when appropriate. The major problem was that she
couldn't figure out how to staple her papers together in the right order with
the staple at the top left. This was a nice running banter. I
actually do believe she did know how to do it, but was just, as they say,
playing me.
Thanks for the
TIPS.
