Some thoughts about the causes of teenage sexual activity:

1. Mass media. I know, much gets blamed on the media. But it seems like everything has a sexual component nowadays. Advertising makes great usage of sex to sell. Movies more than often include a sexual "moment". If one's hormones are pushing and acting out, and on top of it, society is sending the message that everything and everyone is sexual, then it is understandable that one will be enclined to act on the desire.
Ok, I have no data to support this. But it sure makes for an interesting research question. Question is, how do you go about researching this?

2. The religious movements also play a role in the abstinence movement. Politics are deeply involved (no pun intended) in education, especially sex ed. It seems really obvious, especially in the light of our Dear not-so honorable George Bush who want to amend the Constitution to make gay marriages illegal. Wow! Does he need the religious vote that bad?

3. Our society is going faster and faster. My generation was earlier than my parents', and perhaps the trend is simply still going. Puberty hits earlier today than it did 100 years ago. This is bound to influence the desire for sex.

Just my 2 cents... It seems this could lead to many research projects!
