I think there is a misunderstanding here, if I can step in. I believe that Ray had been somewhat brought down as a high school teacher, as not being quite up to the quality of 'person' as some of the college teachers. (I had to read between the lines, but it seemed pretty clear to me!) The person who did this apparently did so by back-channel so that is why we are missing a piece of the puzzle. Ray was merely venting his outrage, as I can clearly understand one might, at having been down-graded.
Apparently, this other person (whose emails I regularly have in my delete filter along with some others....) perpetrated this bit of ad hominem. As we all know, these kinds of attacks then tend to spiral out of control. You call me a name, I call you one back, etc., etc. So no need to get defensive.
Speaking (for a change) in Louis' defense, his posting:
1. Was intended to be private (admittedly he was responsible for accidently sending it).
2. Was responding to Ray's somewhat out-of-the-blue attack on Michael.
3. Was not (if you read it carefully) an ad hominem attack; merely pointed out that Ray's qualifications did not appear to be significantly different from Michael's and could (hypothetically) be subject to the same criticisms.
