According to Jewish law, Jews are not supposed to do any work on the Sabbath or High 
Holy Days.  This would include watching TV or listening to the radio.  But, since many 
Jews are in synagogue praying on the High Holy Days, acts of God have direct
access (like a satellite dish when cable is out).

Yes, Jews would know about hurricanes.  Saving their lives has higher precedence than 
prayer.
