Position Announcement
Sabbatical Replacement 2005-2006

        Berea College is seeking a sabbatical replacement for the
academic year 2005-2006.  The individual must be committed to quality
teaching and be able to teach the following courses:  Fall term -
General Psychology, History and Systems, and Senior Research; Spring
term - Cognitive Psychology (with 2 lab sections) and Senior Research. 
Course descriptions are provided below.  Since this represents a full
and demanding teaching load, applicants should have previous experience
teaching one or more of the courses listed. ABD applicants will be
considered so long as they have teaching experience and excellent
recommendations.

Degrees.  The College is located 30 miles south of Lexington, Kentucky
in the town of Berea. 


General Psychology (PSY 100) - A systematic introduction to psychology
as a science. [Typical enrollment is 30 students]

Cognitive Psychology (PSY 308) - Topics include perception, memory,
language, concept formation, problem solving, and creativity. The
laboratory involves examination and application of the principles
learned in the course. [Typical enrollment is 8-10 students per lab
section with the two labs sections meeting together for lecture.  The
lab consists of 8-10 computer stations equipped with Experiments in
Cognition software]

History and Systems of Psychology (PSY 320) - A study of the historical
and philosophical development of psychological thinking from Descartes
to the present.  [Typical enrollment is 15-20 students]

Senior Research (PSY 424) - Each student designs, conducts, and
presents a psychological experiment as a senior thesis. [Typical
enrollment is 8-12 students]
