Stephen needs to define his terms.  What does "driving safely" mean?  As I understand it (via a student who is doing a thesis project on this topic) the absolute accident rates of elderly drivers are not all that high, but the rate per mile (or kilometer, here in the frozen North) driven is substantially elevated. ---
