Subject: RE: ID ruling
I just returned from visiting my daughter in London. When I told
her about the Dover ruling she made an interesting comment. In
the UK where there is a state religion and during religious
holidays like Christmas everything is shut down, there is less
intrusion of religion into civil matters.
It has often been suggested that the (once-upon-a-time) separation
of church and state in the US had the paradoxical effect of forcing
religion to work much harder to "market" itself to the population
than in countries where there is official state provision for
religion (which has the effect of making it moribund).
As well as eliminating competition.
The marketing of religion in the USofA is targeted more at competing
sects than at the nonreligious.
