I'm with you Stephen. I am drawn to the Minsters in York and Westminster  . . . and the castles of Scotland . . . each trip across the pond. The thousand years plus of history embodied in these structures is exalting. I can remember being drawn to study in the library of The University of Michigan's law school (modeled after colleges of Oxford and Cambridge) while in grad school. There is nothing that compares to the original.

Best,
Sandra

Oh, I dunno. Those mostly anonymous medieval stone masons produced magnificent
cathedrals with just their hands and primitive tools. If only our students with
their computers and other technological trappings could achieve as much. For
that matter, how many professors have produced the equivalent of a cathedral in
their work? Cathedrals usually last longer than academic publications too.

I vote for medieval stone masons as a source of inspiration, not aspersion.

Stephen
