I'm with you Stephen. I am drawn to the Minsters in York and Westminster  . . . and the castles of Scotland . . . each trip across the pond. The thousand years plus of history embodied in these structures is exalting. I can remember being drawn to study in the library of The University of Michigan's law school (modeled after colleges of Oxford and Cambridge) while in grad school. There is nothing that compares to the original.

Of course, there was a cost in lives, both directly in construction fatalities, and indirectly due to resources used to build cathedrals rather than to feed, clothe and house people.
Today, of course, things are different ;-).
Well, that dose of reality sure killed the mood. . . grin
