Was the ancient Greek method of alluding to substances(humors) to

There were typically four humors: blood, phlegm, yellow bile (choler),
and black bile (melancholer). The sources of the first three are
obvious. There continues to be debate to this day about exactly what
black bile was and where it came from. Livers and spleens have both been
put forward as possible candidates. Remember, the Ancient Greeks did not
have exactly the same categories as we do (certainly not in the realm of
"biology" -- a category which, incidentally, did not exist for them), so
there may not be a clear answer to your question in terms of modern
English-language categories.
Cross-culturally yours,
Chris
