Marc- Allow it? I encourage it! That way I can give them back comments. I can also track their progress (keep a copy and email a copy back with corrections). I don't have data but I believe I see marked progress in students since they got more marked up copies. Then when I get them back I can read a clean copy. But I can see why, if you don't like using the computer, that emailing them to you might be less than convenient for you. I think whatever policy you have you should just put in the syllabus and stick to it. We all work differently. One of my colleagues (in the department) does and one does not accept emailed assignments. The person who accepts them is very organized and uses the computer for much of her communication. The one who does not is very disorganized in his use of the computer and struggles just to keep up with email. If you were in my department I'd say it was up to you how you handle it. I think so long as you are consistent. BTW- a real curmudgeon wouldn't ask! :) Sounds more like a nice guy having a curmudgeonly day! Tim

I am considering a "no emailed assignments" policy, but just wonder if I'm being school-marmish and mean. Do you regularly allow students to do this? Thanks for any help you can provide. I don't want to turn into a bitter old man. m ------- "Whatever power the United States Constitution envisions for the Executive in its exchanges with other nations or with enemy organizations in times of conflict, it most assuredly envisions a role for all three branches when individual liberties are at stake." --- July 20,2006 US District Court for Northern California --- To make changes to your subscription go to: http://acsun.frostburg.edu/cgi-bin/lyris.pl?enter=tips&text_mode=0&lang= english --- To make changes to your subscription go to: http://acsun.frostburg.edu/cgi-bin/lyris.pl?enter=tips&text_mode=0&lang=english
