We require a Masters at minimum. The chair interviews and decides and
then the dean would have to approve. I am not aware of criminal checks
for these positions. We have regular class visits/observations as most
do not have teaching experience or expertise in all areas. We try to
mentor and provide help/advice when possible. I think the university
has an adjunct faculty handbook, we have an evening services ("adjunct
support services") office that helps also. It is most difficult to find
folks to help out during the day as most adjuncts of course, have their
regular jobs. If they have taught for us regularly--for a couple of
years, we reduce the class visits/observations. We are always looking
for good adjuncts to help out. We typically have five or six positions
a semester, but this may be reduced due to less demand for some classes.
