Hi, Another thing that doesn't get mentioned is that it's not parents VERSUS peers (any more than it's nature versus nurture). Since who the parents are (SES and other socio-cultural factors) as well as decisions that they make (like where we go to school) influence the type of peers to whom children are exposed.
