Just a little history...do any of you "TIPS oldsters" remember when we were kind of wondering if there really WAS a "Michael Sylvester"? He was signed that he was teaching at an aeronautical college in Jacksonville, if I remember correctly, and we couldn't find him on the Faculty list, so we started suspecting some sabotage from an outsider. His existential response to all of the occasionally acerbic posts about his existence was - no response. He must have been chuckling away.
Since then, I think we've come to realize he has a rather original sense of humor, he drives us crazy sometimes, he reminds us to consider multicultural issues (and also to be tolerant of spelling and grammatical errors from our ESL students), and sometimes offers challenges that sound like they're from the third grade field trip to the Museum of Science. Is he trying to rattle our chains? Who knows? His recent post about his sense of humor got me thinking that he was. Well, like the proverbial burr under the saddle, some of us will miss him in a strange way. (I THINK I MAY be among them.) My dearly departed mother had an expression: "It's like hitting yourself over the head with a hammer because it feels so good when you stop."
