I apologize for posting this, but the email I sent Carol personally
bounced back. I thought I would see if this worked.

Carol,
I would suggest that you bottle feed it every 2 hours. It needs to be
eating every 2 hours and make sure that you keep it warm. You may have
to see your vet if it is not nursing enough from the bottle. There is
formula that you can get at the pet store and they will have a feeding
kit. One brand I know of is Escalat-ask the pet store-there might be
others.
Wish you, your mommy dog and pup well. Happy New Year.
Best,
Alisa

Hey Tim, thanks, but it's the puppy who's not eating. He's only the size
of a hamster, so it seems like he should be eating frequently, but all
he does is sleep.

Carol-
The AKC site contains some information- see:
http://www.akc.org/breeders/resp_breeding/Articles/careandfeeding2.cfm
It does say some dams are anorexic after whelping but that all care
should be taken to increase their caloric intake. If she's totally lost
appetite then you may need help- the suggestions for diet seem to
include diets of cat lactation focus due to high caloric values. I have
a friend who is a breeder who might know. I'll email and ask her but she
may also be unavailable as she is often at a cabin out of cell range
during holidays. You probably have a 24 hour Vet clinic somewhere in the
area if you are extremely concerned. Anyhoo, Happy New Year!!
Tim

Are any of you puppy people? My chihuahua had a puppy two days ago and
I'm frantically trying to figure out how often it should be eating (it
seems that it would rather sleep than eat, and that doesn't match what I
expected). I realize I'm being completely neurotic and I'm abusing the
intent of this list, but I'm really getting anxious and of course my
vet's office is closed.
If you have no clue, then just delete, but if you have some real
information, I'd appreciate it (I've done all kinds of internet
searches).
Thanks, and I'm sorry to be taking advantage of the list, but it seemed
like somewhere in all this collective wisdom might be an answer.
Carol
