I have checked all 14,700 hits and, would you believe it, not a single one provides a verifiable source for the claim (OK, I only checked a few, but I can extrapolate, can't I?). This does not bode well. I tend towards believing that it may well not be true. I am supported by Black's Law of Internet Truth (see below). Black's Law of Internet Truth: If everyone on the Internet claims something is true but no one provides a source, the claim is false. I see that I am supported in my scepticism by Allen Esterson's sleuthing, and also for his providing further evidence of my assertion that Freud was a very strange man, ferns or no ferns.
