Except for Physiological,Euro and U.S-centric psychology reflect models that
are far removed to African-American reality.And the reason why this remains is
due to some assumptions which leads to the FEE= Fundamental Eurocentric
Error.The FEE can be seen in the following assumptions :that scientific
objectivity follows a certain consequential path and that is this path is
quantifiable.However it does not address the issue of who or what decides
relevancy;the idea of independent variables; however ,the idea of an IV rids
understanding behavior of real content especially in African-American life
where relationships between variables can be very complex.
Interestingly enough; that main effects statistically are of more import than
interaction effects and that internal validity
of experimental procedures presupposes external validity are other ideas that
fuel the FEE.
Eurocentric psychology fits well within the Eurocentric paradigm with its
penchant for a)illusory self-improvement b) independence c) competitiveness d)
the functional autonomy of ideational delights
e)individualistic grandstanding F) the elevation of intellectual activity to
higher standards than the other human survival attributes
The African-American paradigm is more collectivisric in orientation.The
Eurocentric individualistic -African American collectivistic dichotomy is
real.Howver,the FEE is that the latter could be construed as a deficency,where
in reality both paradigms could be viewed as "deficit neutral" It is assumed
that as nations become more interdependent ,the Eurocentric paradigm will
be,ironically,scientifically challenged.
