The Nobel Committee has to work by the mandate laid out in the Nobel bequest. It does not include psychology or any other social/behavioral science (the economics prize, technically, is not a Nobel. It was not in the bequest and it is funded by the Bank of Sweden, not the Nobel committee). Ludy Benjamin wrote a great little paper about behavioral scientists who have been nominated and who have won Nobels (in other categories). I think it was in American Psychologist, but I can't find the exact reference now. There was an interview with him on Psychology Today, which can be read here: http://www.psychologytoday.com/articles/200401/nobel-prize-psychology Chris But Chris they award prizes for literature and I am sure that there must be some psychologistwho can come up with creative novels with the underpinnings of psychological ideas and discoveriesto impress the world wide community. We as psychologists have lots of stuff about human nature. It is my understanding that Skinner was an English major (but do not quote me on thiis). My tiny birthplace of St.Lucia in the Caribbean has had two nobellaureates: Arthur Lewis for econ znd Derek Walcott for literature.I personally have been trying to get a MacArthur award so I can spend the money to visitDarwin's birthplace.Michael --- To make changes to your subscription contact: Bill Southerly ([email protected])
