Pathology, unfortunately, may be an issue. As I understand criteria from 
national bodies, counselors are supposed to possess the kind of emotional 
stability that their clients presumably lack. Our experience with masters level 
counseling applicants (and occasionally students) is that indeed there may be 
some underlying emotional and/or psychological problems present in some of 
them.
