Yes the results are not surprising.

But I wonder if part of the problem here - at least for the unmarried older
straight females - is the lack of male partners (that callous joke about how
"the men are going to die so all those put-upon married women won't have to
have sex that much longer" didn't make me laugh very much) combined with the
fact that we are competing with younger women (who many of those horny older
guys are going to want to marry instead of us.) If you want to have sex with
men, there just aren't that many around...

Or the fact that although there are a lot of negative stereotypes about older
folks of both genders wanting sex, those stereotypes are generally more
negative for women. Aren't we supposed to lose interest? We're not sexy
anymore, so why should we want sex?

I was pretty unhappy to begin with this evening - for reasons not related to my
sex life. This doesn't help. I'll have a nice evening in the pit of despair.

The headline from this article in the Atlanta-Journal Constitution
ays it all:
ttp://www.ajc.com/news/researchers-men-want-sex-361309.html?cxtype=rss_news_128746

or a somewhat "straighter" treatment of the research study,
ime.com has this story:
ttp://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1970975,00.html?xid=rss-fullhealthsci-yahoo

nd ticklers, er, sticklers for original sources, here is a link to the
rticle in the British Medical Jorunal:

Surprisingly, the conclusion of the article is quite limited:
|Conclusion Sexual activity, good quality sexual life, and interest
in sex were higher for men than for women and this gender gap
widened with age. Sexual activity, quality of sexual life, and interest
in sex were positively associated with health in middle age and later
life. Sexually active life expectancy was longer for men, but men
lost more years of sexually active life as a result of poor health than
women.
I remember a routine that Lenny Bruce used to do about guys
re-occupation with sex which I think kinda foreshadowed this
esult. It can be found in "The Essential Lenny Bruce"; see:
