I have something of a survey question to ask about APA style:
How many of you require that the title/author name/affiliation/etc to
be flush against the top margin instead of the middle of the page?
Personally, I thought it pretty dumb to have the title/etc in the middle
of the page, especially since this made it much more difficult to locate
a specific paper if one was holding a bunch of papers. With the 6th Ed
putting the Author Note on the cover/title page, this forces one to move
the title/etc up to the top. However, looking at the example papers
that Jim Clark has on his website (below), one paper has the title/etc
flush against the top (this one has an Author Note) while another paper
has the title/etc in the middle (there is no Author Note).
I tell my students that regardless of whether one has an Author Note or
not one should put the title/etc flush against the top as a consistent
practice.
Does anyone do the same?

P.S. I also have students turn "text boundaries" on in Word so they can
see the text area and where they need to put a line of text to make it
flush against the top margin.

I have a friend who is a "non-traditional" student
(a polite way to say they are quite a bit older than
the average student) who is having difficulties
writing papers in APA Format (big surprise). I am
not teaching classes that require APA format and was
wondering what resources you use for your students.
What's the best resource that she can use to
prevent losing credit on her papers that require APA
format?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. You can post
here, or email me directly.
