If you bring in a lot of grants and/or teach a lot of students, you're a "profit center." If you don't bring in grants and teach small classes, you're a "cost center." Out you go? I think the contingency is pretty simple: Pass everybody -> increase in graduation rates -> more money. I don't think it will take a long time for the school administrations to comprehend this relationship and act accordingly.
