That is not supported at this time. There is no access to the TiVo
menus over a network, just Now Playing. TiVo plans to expose these
features over time via the HME API.

The TiVo is quite a bit slower than a PC when it comes to file
transfer, it doesn't have the CPU or RAM to process the transfers at
high speed. And for TiVoToGo it has to encrypt the stream on the fly
as it transfers, so TTG is slower than MRV. But the end speed depends
on the network (wired is faster than 11g which is faster than 11b) and
the quality of the connection.

Never assume. That wouldn't work for most people since msot home
networks do not - AND SHOULD NOT - allow *incoming* connections,
especially to a device like a TiVo. It would be impossible for TiVo's
servers to connect to your TiVo to check your information unless you
configured your network to allow it. That's beyond the skills of most
users, and it is a bad idea anyway - the TiVo is not engineered to
handle public connections, and it would be susceptible to denial of
service attacks, etc. Asking the average user to setup their network
to allow connections inbound is just asking for trouble.

The alternative is for the TiVo to upload the information to TiVo's
servers periodically. TiVo has not done this because of privacy
concerns. They've gone out of their way to make sure they do NOT have
personally identifiable information on their servers, so allowing
uploads of such information would be the antithesis of everything
they've tried to do to date. Still, it is something that is requested
(I have), as an option. I wouldn't mind agreeing to a waiver of their
privacy policy to get more personalized features.
