I've already seen two answers to your question; I hope you don't mind

You cannot; you have to take the bad with the good. However, you can
use the "fast forward" button to skip through them. After a little
practice, you'll be able to get the timing just right, whether it's a
two-minute break, a boring part of the newss, or a several-minute
commercial.

(Letterman used to have 6 minutes of commercials right at the end of
the program, but they've spaced them out a little differently now.)

It's "Suggestions."

I have a slightly different opinion on this than our esteemed
contributor, MegaZone, mainly because our situations, and amount of
hard disk drive space, differ.

I want to review the Suggestions and then choose what to record.

From "TiVo Central," go to "Messages & Settings," then "Settings,"
then "Recording," then "TiVo Suggestions."

Select "No, don't record TiVo Suggestions."

TiVo will continue to make suggestions, but instead of recording them,
they are displayed for you to review.

From "TiVo Central," go to "Find Programs," then "TiVo Suggestions."

For programs that you don't care about, you can either do nothing, or
you can give them a "thumbs down," and they'll go away.

For programs you like, you can hit "Select," and then chose quality,
etc.

Make no mistake, this works for me, but it may not work for you.

MegaZone has a very good point; it's one way of telling how full your
hard disk drive is getting to be, and you may find that useful.
