The funny part is that is exactly what I'd done, until a friend told me about a "channel 00" backdoor. On his S2 box, if you tune to channel 00, it looks at the aux inputs, but with some catches. First, it only works when it's set up as a manual record, if you just tune it to 00, nothing, and as such, hitting record when it's seeing nothing has no effect.
And on the time I'd kinda figured out that other than it being annoying as to what time something was really on, and what time it really was, the programs and the guide do match up, thankfully. Now my issue is that it doesn't seem to want to make the call, I've not changed anything on the phone line, and it fails to connect every time, test calls work sometimes and not others. Unfortunately, you can't break out of the guided setup, even pulling the plug didn't release it, so until that phone call goes through (been trying for almost 24 hours now), it's a brick.
