Tivo HD really has a lot of benefits over the older boxes, that's why I upgraded. Reception of digital TV signals, coming up soon, dual tuner, of course HD, and the internet based communication (I came from an old Sony Series 1 box, which was pretty basic, but worked nicely for the 7 years I had it).
Also consider an upgraded unit if you like to store lots of viewing options, you can buy or upgrade with a larger hard drive for additional space, at more cost of course. You can always upgrade space later with an external drive "My DVR Expander".
