Hi,

After much thought on what to do about this problem, [we are not technically
able to repair it ourselves].
we decided to
get the Series 3 HD box instead. The questions I have about doing this though,
are, when I went to Amazon to check prices, I read
some of the reviews of the new S3
and many were very discouraging about setting it up, the service, the way it
played after setup, the most discouraging part. Many
have returned them. Since we are technically challenged, I would
not like to be going through all that stress and discouragement.

I also read that there is a newer tivo after the S3 called HD that is less than
half the price, and also that tivo may be going to
drop the S3 sometime soon in the future. So would I be better off to just go
for the HD? I don't know what features are not on it
for less the price, but if S3 is going out I would be better to buy something
else now rather than later?

>>It means the drive has to be replaced, if that is indeed the problem.
You can call TiVo support and see about having it repaired. Or if
you're comfortable doing it yourself there are ready-to-run drives
from WeaKnees.com or DVRupgrade.com, or you can supply your own and
image it with a PC, I suggest Instant Cake from DVRUpgrade.
