I'm pretty sure it is, but you can call Tivo to be sure.

There is one thing to be careful of. I'll tell you how my two Tivos appear
right now, and you be the judge of what a less than honest guy could do.

I bought a Sony Series 1 tivo with lifetime service back in 2001 for $400,
plus $200 for the lifetime. Seemed pricey, but I've never regretted it.

Fast forward to 2007, I purchase a Tivo HD and take Tivo's offer to transfer
the lifetime service, I paid $300 for the unit, another $150 for a drive
upgrade, $50 for the original drive as a spare, and $200 to tivo to transfer
my lifetime service to the new unit, which includes 12 months of service on
the unit from which the service was transferred.

Now, when I look at the service plan info on either Tivo, it still indicates
(11 months later) that I have lifetime service on the S1, and something like
"prepaid" service on the HD. I called Tivo to ask and they said the HD will
show the lifetime service plan after the 12 months has expired.

I could take a picture of the service details on the TV, and sell the S1 to
an unsuspecting buyer as a lifetime unit, and had I done that 11 months ago,
they wouldn't even find out until November that they'd been duped.

So buy with caution, and I would insist that the seller somehow show you
that this isn't the case, perhaps by YOU calling Tivo and getting the seller
on the phone to verify information to make the transfer of the unit to you
legit. If you let the seller make the phone call, he might just call his
buddy, and not Tivo.

With that in mind, anyone care to buy a 30 hour Sony Series 1 Tivo with 1
month of service left on it ? :-) From what I've seen, the SVR-2000 remote
control is worth more than the unit itself.

Anyone know off hand what functions I'll have left on the S1 when the
service runs out ? I've heard some become bricks without service, and
others can still record based on time/channel, even without program guide
information, making it a tapeless VCR, but not much more.

Glen
