It is having problems with both the TV and surround sound.  The Harmony 520 is
the remote I have.  It's ok as a backup, but not as intuitive as the Tivo
remote is.  I had bought it because my old Sony S1 box remote sometimes becomes
lost, and as you all know, a Tivo without a remote is nothing but a brick that
consumes power and occationally changes channels for you.

TV is Samsung UN40C6300SF
HT is Samsung HT-C6500, though the unit itself says something like
HT-BD6500-WWT.

I've gone through the learning routine trying to program the 520, and it finds
a similar TV set, but those codes work in the Tivo remote already.  The HT I go
through the learning process using the HT remote, it sees the key inputs, but
in the end says it doesn't find a match.  I haven't really completed the
process.  Also, this HT has a BluRay disc player built in, and the typical AV
reciever doesn't know anything about disc play, so I suspect it's not going to
behave well, or I'll have to program it as if it's two separate devices.

There's a feature between the two Samsung devices called Anynet+ which
coordinates stuff like power off, input selection, volume and mute control
between the two, it's pretty slick, too bad they only got it half way figured
out.  If I change inputs on the HT, and stop on something where the TV no
longer gets an HDMI feed, the TV automatically changes input to the next input
on it's list, in this case CATV.  Likewise if you change the TV input from HDMI
to CATV, the HT changes it's input to D-in (the audio feed from the TV), which
is slick, except it often operates when I'm not wanting it to.  To top that
off, the only way to get to the HT menus is to change inputs to the BD/DVD
input, and then stop the disc that tries to play, THEN you get the menus to
change options like speaker levels.  If you were doing something like playing a
video game on another HDMI port to the TV, the TV is going to change inputs to
the HDMI to the BD/DVD player.  The Menu
button on the HT remote does nothing unless you're already in the setup
menus.  Brilliant stuff really.  Yes, that's sarcasm.  :-)

I'm really just cranked up that the system doesn't operate in a predicible or
logical way, wouldn't you expect the menu button to bring up a menu ?

I'm really wanting the Tivo remote to do all the work, until I slip a disk into
the player or want to access special features of the HT anyway.  The basics of
turning the power on and off for both the HT and TV, as well as control volume
is the basic requirement, and I think about all the Tivo remote is going to do
anyway, but that covers 95% of my use anyway.

I forget what Harmony remote you have but they all use the same software. I
have 2 880's and one One.  They control everything in my theater set-ups
(including lights).  If your receiver is too new and not in their software
database yet, you can usually choose the model prior to yours and use that for
99% of everything since the codes would be the same. What model Samsung
receiver is it?

The AV power trick, I wish I knew that a long time ago, I've had a second
remote by my couch position for all these years for nothing.

Now I know the trick, but there's no code that works for my AV reciever.  I've
tried the 3 listed in the system, and the 1999 trick and ran out of codes to
try, no joy I guess.  Anyone got codes for recent models of Samsung home
theater systems ?

I was wondering if the QWERTY keyboard unit was going to work with the
older models, that would be a worthwhile upgrade, too bad it's likely to be
a $100 item.  The Harmony remote I have doesn't seem to like the new equipment
I have, it doesn't have those models in the data base yet, and of course it's a
bit clunky with all the unique buttons remotes tend to have.

Glad the new drive has helped - and more space is definitely nice.  Charter
finally has enough HD channels in my area that the 250GB drive in my S3 got
tight and I re-attached a 500GB eSATA drive to expand it.  Thinking about
doing an internal upgrade to clean things up a bit.

As for the remote - maybe wait for the new QWERTY TiVo remote coming out
later this year?  I understand that it is programmable.

The S3 Glo remote can be programmed to control both TV and Receiver power.
In fact, all TiVo remotes can, even the non-programmable ones.  A little
secret - your do the TV setup to set the TV power like normal.  But then you
do it again and enter the *receiver* code, same one used for volume/mute,
and the button does both with one press.  Similar when programming it - I've
long had my peanut control my TV & receiver.
