Paul should have used a subjunctive mood.  "If pinning were suddenly
acceptable then..."

The pinning in the DANE case was for a limited time IIRC.  One fair
question might be; how long can a pin last for before it becomes a bad
idea?  One second?  Five minutes?  Ten hours?  One week?  Should that
then become the maximum allowed pin time?
