Hello TMDA Users, I'm a TMDA newbie, and wnated to share my experience with merging it with Postfix.
Since Postfix 1.1x releases on up, postfix runs (default) under the username postfix, group = postdrop. Same UID 500+ as mere mortals. I got TMDA installed and working thanks to the gracious help of Mark Horn. My mail would send, request confirmation, and state confirmation accepted. Then it would repeat that cycle for each subsequent message thereafter, even if the sender was on the confirmed list. I found on the archive a nice tmda install script from bashjunkie@codegnome and thought I would try that to see if it would rectify my problem. Anyway I ran it as a regular user to install tmda, and the sanity check failed.. which tmda. I did an echo $PATH. I added symlinks from /bin to /usr/src/tmda/bin then everything began to work.... Flawlessly. Thanks tmda-workers, and thanks Mark, thanks bashjunkie. BTW: Postfix 1.2 (to be released in a few weeks) will offer a new command called reject_unverified_sender. It will reverse to the sending MTA, and do a RCPT TO and if it comes back user unknown, Postfix will tell the sending MTA 554 That may spare TMDA a heck of a lot of needless bounces to forged envelope sender addresses. The two tools in tandem, may be very very effective, and not a real resource drain to boot. SMTP sessions will lengthen a little, running a caching BIND locally may help... Regards & thanks to all of the above. TMDA looks very promising... -Austin _____________________________________________ tmda-users mailing list ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) http://tmda.net/lists/listinfo/tmda-users
