I used to have it set to 10, and still got too many false positives (along with letting too much spam through), so I ended up nuking it, and using TMDA alone (not really alone, I've got tons of other checks.. rbls, my own header and body checks, urls, keywords, etc..). MUCH better.
Yes, a setting of 3 will most certainly give too many false positives.
Definitely true, which is the whole beauty of using TMDA take care of that issue, you get the best of both.
