OK, I've set up tmda-ofmipd according to the howto on the tmda website. I've set up the tofmipd file containing my username:passwd in ~user/.tmda/tofmipd. I've configured my MUA, which is Sylpheed to use SMTP AUTH with CRAM-MD5, Port 8025 and the same username and password that you find in the tofmipd file. However when I try to send an email, I get:
* Connecting to SMTP server: open2web.com ... ** Can't connect to SMTP server: open2web.com:8025 ** Error occurred while connecting to server
Next, I brought down my firewalls and I still get the same error message.
Any recommendations would be welcome at this point.
To begin your troubleshooting, on the server itself, try this:
> telnet `hostname` 8025
If you cannot get in even there, make sure that tmda-ofmipd is running `ps -ax | grep tmda`, and what port it is listening on `netstat -a | grep 8025`
If you get in, you should get a greeting line like:
220 hostname.domain.dom ESMTP tmda-ofmipd
Type 'quit' (and enter) to exit.
Other misc questions:
How are you starting up tmda-ofmipd?
What user are you running it as?
Can you connect to other services on the same host from the client machine?
