In most cases, tmda-sendmail's overhead should be negligable. Only a fraction of a second per message on my machine: $ time mutt johndoe < .bashrc real 0m0.212s user 0m0.148s sys 0m0.033s What is the output of `tmda-sendmail -V' on your machine? How fast is the processor on your machine? How much slower per message is mutt with tmda-sendmail compared to mutt without?
