Josh--

Some comparison data:

I've noticed the same, but then again, I'm running on a K6-233MHz.
Even so, I noticed quite a bit of delay for outgoing mail when I
switched from mutt's default to tmda-sendmail:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] <06:51pm> 518$ tmda-sendmail -V
TMDA/0.82 "Needles" (Python/2.2.1 on linux-i586

[EMAIL PROTECTED] <06:50pm> 514$ time mutt brian < ~/.bashrc

real 0m3.234s
user 0m1.680s
sys 0m0.140s

Sometimes the real time is on the order of 7 or 8 seconds. I've just
learned to live with it, it's not as if my MB is a speed demon! (I do
notice, however, that my 233 times beat your 550 times. Something
seems wrong about that.)
