Are you running 64-bit Linux - I think those PPCs are 64 bit, right?

Just wondering if there's a Python issue with 64-bit or something, or
though that wouldn't explain the variability of the issue. Perhaps it's
something to do with the multi-CPU aspect, and race conditions. I'll try
testing ofmipd on a Linux machine at work, which has dual dual-core x86.
