jude, you are correct. we have two different sorts of nerves in our body and spinal cord. One type of nerve carries sensations, the other type moves muscles by signeling the muscle to contract or relax. think about the old knee jerk reaction. the "hammer" hits the tendon below the knee cap (patella), the tendon has stretch receptors that send a message along the sensation nerves to the spinal cord. In the spinal cord there are small nerves that connect, modulate, enhance, etc. The message goes to these small nerves that then send a message down the motor nerves to the quadriceps (Thigh) muscle telling it to contract. This usually happens in microseconds. Then your lower leg flies up. Understandable???? F
