Yes, this is the Straight path.  Those He favors He educates and trains with
suffering.  "And if you were of the world the world would love its own.  But
I have chosen you out of the world . . . ."

That is maddeningly ridiculous and sounds more like the idea of karma. Job
was afflicted even though God Himself said he had done nothing wrong. In
John 9:1-4 it says, "As [Jesus] passed by, he saw a man blind from birth.
And his disciples asked him, 'Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents,
that he was born blind?' Jesus answered, 'It was not that this man sinned,
or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him.'"
