Hmm. I thinke, git IS the standard tool for versioning now, usable under
all OSses which tntnet can be compiled for. I.e. lvm2 is maintaining a
version nummber additionally now (you can use git tags for this), but so
you have to do it manually.

Maybe the best thing for me seems a combination from tags and date. So i
can see the most recent version plus the checkout date.

In big companies i know there exist following versioning scheme:

a.b.c.e

a: Mayor Release, only changed on big issues
b. Minor Release, only changed on minor function enhancemends
c. Hotfixes, if some mistakes must have to be corrected
d. changes for special customers, only changed for specific customers
with maintenance agreement, later included in b. or c.

I.e. tntnet-2.2.37.45-deutscheBoerse

But i would preferred the versioning scheme named before.
