Hi,
The response of the on-field members is very frank and that's really
good. Especially since, you'll be the ones who'll execute the project.
That said, I don't want a good idea like this to die. I want to
evaluate, with the group's support, a barebones implementation of this idea.
Here are a bunch of suggestions to implement a stripped down version of this
idea ...
1. What if we took up a work area like a garage near our parents'
homes? Then our parents can act as supervisors without long commute.
2. Then can we assemble needy senior people in the area (within walking
distance) in this place for a few hours daily?
3. Instead of having customers come to the store to purchase, can the
finished goods be delivered to schools, where the customers can buy the
goods? The finished goods can be delivered once in 15 days or a month.
The advantages of this approach are that
a. Since it involves people living in an area, it cuts down on travel
time and travel expenses
b. Since it will be located in the same area where our parents' live,
we can use their trust in managing the project hence cutting down on
volunteer involvement
c. Since it is located in an area's vicinity, setup of the 'work' area
is going to be hopefully minimal
d. Volunteer involvement would be co-ordination between school,
development team and customers once in 15 days or a month
* Track development progress a week before delivery
* Track requirement, a week before delivery
* Add more customers (schools/parents) once a month or so
* Send out e-mailers to co-workers/friends about this effort once
in a while
Though I think Divya's original idea is way more awesome and best for
long term implementation, this proposal is an interim one, to keep this idea
alive. Please exchange your thoughts regarding this.
Cheers!

I am sure if all of us think in the way (not the thoughts but the
process) and suggest alternatives, we will definitely take this idea down
the line.
What I always think of is 'Alternatives' when it comes to my goals. If I
strongly believe in something, if people say so and so would be the
obstacles, I will not fear or get depressed, I only think on how much I can
take them, be prepared to accept the pain or suffering and will go on head
long. I only think on how to overcome the obstacles and if that is not
possible, the alternatives.
Bottom line is we do not have many volunteers. We have people who work
like one man armies when need arises. But we cannot pretend the same all the
time. We too wish to be like normal people who wish to spend sometime for
ourselves. Though I feel that I do all this work as my hobby and I seek
pleasure in it, most of the times I end up ignoring my personal works to the
dismay of my parents.
Let us first consolidate our activities and see to that all of them are
smoothly executed. Then we can think on how best we can implement the idea.
