I thought of writing on this thread as it looks more relevant for my replies. Even though we say at the beginning of a mail that "PLEASE DONT MISUNDERSTAND " or things like that, we know that chances are there for misunderstanding. Some of the mails and replies really look to be written with some sarcasm even though they are not. The main reason is the usage of vocabulary to bring out what we want to say but can't say. I am not going to teach anyone or say what should have been and what should not. The only thing I feel apt here to mention that, we are a group of people from various backgrounds and our interests may vary. No one has ever said that BDP/FDP/SDP are bad because we all know, they are not. Now the thing is that few people might have interest in BDP, few may like FDP and others may like SDP. Why we shall take up something and leave something? Like medical cases, few members may contribute for a cause (DPs) and few others will execute it. Why arguing between this and /or that? Personally, I am never interested in medical cases because my ideology is, with the kind of money we are contributing for a medical case, many kids can have their school fees, dresses, chappals and many more thing. Its like helping many for the cost of one. But do I ever suggest that its a bad idea to help someone who really needs medical treatment? In the same manner, let us not restrict ourselves from doing anything that is feasible. .C, I do not see any reason for your apologies because I could feel the pulse of your mail. You wanted all of us to have a brain-storming for finding a better way of FDP in which more and more needy people would benefit. And Prasanthi is correct to some extent that how come we can think of education and necessities keeping them hungry. You are right. But don't you think we never thought about a probable FDP when we took up BDP? Its a matter of time to think and execute any DP or for that matter any Ps. While BDP and SDP are relatively easy to execute (because mostly it is one time), FDP is a recurrent one..we were/are planning for FDP every week. The cost involved may be less but the time and manpower it needs is very high. In this 2 years (and also from my other experience with SHIFT) I have seen that raising money is really not that difficult, but executing anything in the field is a great effort. Time is the most wanted factor and we have less number of volunteers to work on the field. As FDP needs continuous manpower and effort, probably few of the members were not so enthusistic about it. Apart from that its about finding real needy people. Like in one of the mails Prasanthi had written earlier, its really difficult to identify who needs it and who does not because while distributing food packets, no one can deny one packet to someone who might not be that needy. Many of the beggars found near temples/traffic signals/offices have taken up begging as the easiest profession. They also need Food packets. Are they needy? So for that matter is there any way to find out who is really needy? Thats what .C has precisely suggested..a better way of doing it. So what I suggest finally is, if we have volunteers let us go for FDP and in the meantime thing about better ways of doing the same. At the same time, we can take up SDP too. For SDP, my contribution is Rs.500. Ratan
