Once again, I do not believe we need to justify why we think the group money is not to be spent on a particular case. It should be the other way where we need to have very good reasons why we should give. If you think at a personal level, when you think of spending money on an item or event, all you need is to feel that you do not want to. I never sit and analyse why I should not spend money on let us say buying an audio system for my house. I just think it is not the right thing and leave it at that.
I agree with Ratan, so far we have been focussing on cases which are published on Eenadu or have contacts with the group directly or indirectly. And if we take this as an example, there are already funds that have come from people in US. And I am sure more funds can be raised or worst case, loan taken and repaid. But what about those who are not noticed by the media or have no internet access? Yesterday Ratan and I visited Niloufer hostpital. We are always discussing cases from NIMS, Care, Yashoda, Apollo etc. But one visit to Nioufer made us wonder who will help these people. We visited the various children wards. And these are amongst the poorest of people who will never be able to reach us simply because they do not have the right contacts. And the information given by the hospital is just mind boggling in terms of what effect it has on the entire city. The finances needed to help these people is not very high and well within our reach. First thing they need is a water filtration system. And it will reach those who really deserve and appreciate it.So why not we adopt such hospitals and make a real difference? Those who would like to work with me and Ratan on Niloufer please send a direct mail to me. The group can decide how much funds can be spent. I will not propose an amount and then ask why we should not spend. I feel that 55% of groups funds to be spent on medical cases is too high. Funds should be equally divided among various initiatives that we want to take. Medical cases would any way get specific contributions from members. So we can work with that. Feel free to share your thoughts on this program either with the group or with me personally. Cheers Suresh A
