How about a collage / chart competition, which can be hung in the school
premises for educational purposes even after the event? This could be based on
National Leaders, Patriotic themes, or just about the Animal Kingdom , etc.,
However, this may cost them money to buy material probably- we give potential
participants money to buy materials? or we provide materials ourselves? Not
sure
how viable this is.

Hi Friends,

Thank you all for your valuable suggestions. We will take your suggestions as
guidelines and proceed. I feel giving small gifts in the competitions will
improve children’s competitive spirit.
Anil garu, it is really good idea to gift them seedlings and ask them to plant
and take care. We will try to implement it. Before that we need to plant seeds
into their minds saying importance of trees. We are in the process of that by
taking regular classes regarding. One more reason is all the children in the
school are from nearby slum. I have visited the slum two weeks back and I find
no place to plant the trees, and even there is no place in school premises also.
Santosh Garu, essay writing would be useful for 8th or 9th class students on
Science topics. I agree with you. We are conducting essay writing for 5th class
children on general topics.
I have already given the two topics to the teachers (Nagaraju Garu and one
Nandi
foundation volunteer), to prepare the children accordingly.
Given topics are
1. About INDIA (Which includes importance of 15th August)
2. about Uses of Trees (Environment) .
My intention behind these topics is these are the topics each and every child
should aware.
Prasanthi garu,
Regarding story writing and story telling, it is good one to improve children’s
creativity and these types of competitions will definitely cultivate the
reading
habit. We will do that.
While listing all the games, we have already sorted story telling and story
writing along with essay writing. Since we have very less time (only 2
weekends)
to conduct all the competitions for all the classes, some games are removed.
Anyways we will plan for that if time permits.
Thanks & Regards,
Shilpa Pagadala,
TMAD- Hyderabad.
