When I install the same jakarta-tomcat-4.1.24.exe on win98, I did not do anything. no JAVA_HOME OR PATH. It is working great! Do I need to do set up in autoexec.bat file???

Extend JAVA_HOME to its actual value before adding it to your PATH. So if JAVA_HOME = c:\j2sdk-1_4_01, then add c:\j2sdk-1_4_01\bin to your PATH.
