In the early '70s I was home from college for the summer in Midland and as I
was on the roof of my parents house working on my little 40 meter dipole, I saw
this HUGH stack of antennas a few blocks away. I rode my bike over there (over
a mile away) and knocked on the door. This gentleman answered, I introduced my
self and he invited me in and let me set down at his rig and operate. WOW the
DX I worked! That was when I met Dave. RIP.

I worked him on EME and tropo at the same time.
The latter was one morning when I was pointed to JA and I heard W5UN calling
CQ. Then I heard another signal on a slightly different frequency. I tuned
that one in and it was W5UN calling CQ at a slightly different time. I finally
figured out that I was hearing him off the moon with some time delay and
Doppler and off the back of my antenna on tropo. He was much stronger off the
moon.
I never logged him on topband.
