Hi Holger, - in many other modelling languages it is no problem to have not-further-constrainted user defined type just for the sake of the extra user-defined names - I will upgrade tbc and study the Manchester syntax and then look at the generated code.....

In your case, I wonder why you even have the onDataRange to restrict float, as there is no other constraint defined - you could just as well use xsd:float it seems. I think the correct way of specifying such a global datatype is using rdfs:subClassOf. The other way of using those user-defined datatypes in OWL 2 is via local restrictions at a class, using the OWL Manchester Syntax. http://www.w3.org/TR/owl2-manchester-syntax/ which will handle the low-level triples for you.
