This page describes the process required to get service calls authenticated
under forms authentication:

Instead of putting the username/password in the URL of the service call,
you'll want to call the login page directly, passing the credentials
there.  Assuming you've given valid credentials, you should then receive a
cookie to be passed along on subsequent REST calls.  The above
documentation page should go into this in a bit more detail.
