Hey Now!
Just got back from Madchester and Brumland after what
was arguably the greatest weekend of my life. Madness
again the source of such happiness.
Before I begin, I know that I run the risk of sounding
like a boastful shit, I swear that is not the case. I
am just so happy and over the moon about Madness. We
can get sick of being negative about JTH and flops and
all; at times forgetting the cheer that the band
brings. Anyway here is the story
Before I go any further a big three cheers for Steve
on organising the Madmeet. Its quality that counts,
not quantity. The Kareoke rocked, except for the
plonker singing Cardiacarrest and Baggy Trousers.
On arrival at Madchester MEN Arena, the Irish crew and
me met Chris boy at back. I asked him to send word to
Chas, he said that he was not well that time. I knew
though hed be on stage. That was cool I thought, even
better when he remembered the face! Then we departed,
hoping to meet later on. Reece were providing
support. Anoraks may take note, that one Lee J
Thompson is managing this lot. In true support
fashion, we went out for a few drinks.
Met up with the great Simon Roberts, Suggsylia, P
Hurley and Dominic Kearney. I am so sorry for missing
you all later on. Apologias maximus.
The gig was tops and then during JTH and Baggy
Trousers, Mr Smash gave a big hello to Vince and
Michael Farmer (another fan he knew) .Hoya boyo! we
nearly died, he got a tape of it too off a bootleg.
Hehehe!
When the crowd had departed, I once again sent word
backstage to Mr. Smash, that the VJF and Co. were in
the house. Well what dya know..Guest Passes all
round. Here I met up with long-time Madness groupie
Adele Hargraves by sheer chance. Thanks kiddo for the
photography! Anyway soon enough we were in the
presence of Woody and the man himself.Mr. Smash.
Really folks I have never seen someone with such
Presence. He was the centre of attention. Sporting a
fine hat, he reminded me of Leon Trotsky and Michael
Collins with long coat to boot. Is he just the f*cking
man or what? Again we embraced and had a few laughs
and a few beers along with a photocall.I thought that
was it and was preparing to leave. However we were
then taken in next door to another room of magic. This
time we were greeted by all members. More than
anything, was the thrill that they all remembered me.
Even Mark said hey Vince, without me reminding him
my name. They were all on top form, all in agreement
that tonight was a great gig. We all mingled and got
photos taken, autographs for our promos and all. It
was just amazing. Thankfully I got all for photos,
even Felix Fairfax Foreman, Chrissy Boys 6 year old
is a blinding kid and a real terror. What a guy! The
night just seemed to get better and better. I and the
rest never really expected this, and we all left on
top of the world back to our hotel. Just for good
measure, we did it again a night later at Birmingham
NEC.
The main reason I write this is to hope that you all
get to meet this wonderful gentleman. They say never
meet your heroes.I say bollocks to that. These guys
are so genuine, honest and sincere, interested in the
fans more than themselves. Its such a tribute to a
band, that can rarely ever be genuinely be bestowed.
Thankfully I got the photos back today and they have
come out tops. Was it as good as the first time.
Maybe, maybe not. Was it good? Nah..It was
wonderful. The best way to end a year, decade, century
and Millennium on a Mad note. The Tour promoted the
fact that you waited long enough..Perhaps so, but
it was well worth it!
All the Best
Vince!
