So what if Suggs isn't a great singer in the sense of someone like
for instance Marvin Gaye. It's just a different style really. Ian Dury
and Prince Buster, two big influences on Madness, were not great
"singers" in that sense, but Suggs, Dury and Buster are/were
charismatic front men, who convey the songs brilliantly.
It wouldn't be the same if someone like Marti Pellow was singing My
Girl etc. Sugg's sings in a more natural voice. All these soap stars
and stage school kiddies are taught how to sing, but while they maybe
techniqually and musically correct, it lacks substance and soul most
of the time.
Sure he hits the odd duff note now and then but so what.
