This is interesting. I saw from another thread that the touch can't see directories shared on the network. Would it have been that much more overhead to have the SAMBA client as well as the server running?
Regarding seeing the drive connected to the Touch on the network, has anybody managed their library remotely using this functionality? What I mean by this is ripping/encoding/tagging files to the drive attached to the Touch from a computer on the network. If that works well, that's very cool.
